Plaid Friday

What: Between department stores and the gigantic Mall of America, you can find a gift for just about everyone. The problem is, these gifts can feel impersonal as they’re mass produced and made for commercial consumption. Plaid Friday helps you connect with mom-and-pop shops and let your loved ones know that their gifts will be like no other. When: Plaid Friday kicks off on November 25th, as an alternative to Black Friday. Of course, if you’re a belated gift-buyer, you can continue to use the hashtag throughout the holiday season. Small businesses love to see support from their community! Who: All holiday shoppers are encouraged to participate! We would love to see support throughout the Twin Cities – and across the country! Invite your friends to like the event’s Facebook page. How: Wear plaid during your shopping excursions and snap selfies of yourself and your friends. Upload the pics to your favorite social media platforms – we recommend Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter – and caption it with the hashtag #PlaidFriday. We also encourage you to tag the business you’re supporting. More Info: Many companies have already started promoting Plaid Friday. The list is ever-expanding, but see if your favorite shop is participating by clicking here. If you’re a small, local business that would like to join in the festivities, you can register your business online. Although this event started in Oakland, California, we’re happy to see that it has come to the Midwest. Let’s make this event’s third anniversary it’s most popular shopping day yet!
